The Student Government Association at Southeast Missouri State University has decided to restart the frequent flyers program at Southeast. There will be eight events selected for the program and students who attend six, seven or eight of these events will all be guaranteed a prize at the end of the semester.
"Student Government Association's Frequent Flyer program was designed to encourage student involvement on campus by rewarding students who attend various Southeast events," said Jami Conley, Student Issues Committee Chair and chairperson in charge of the program. "Eight events, consisting of Athletics, River Campus and other various student events, will be promoted as part of the program during the Spring 2013 semester."
Students who attend these eight events will have their IDs scanned in order to participate in the program, and after all eight events have occurred students who are eligible for prizes will receive them.
"Prizes are organized in three levels," Conley said. "Students attending exactly six of the eight events are guaranteed a level one prize, while students attending seven events are guaranteed a level two prize. For students attending all eight events, there will be a guaranteed level three prize and entry into a grand prize drawing."
The Frequent Flyer program has been promoted this semester by throwing 600 T-shirts at events students attended this semester. There were T-shirts thrown out at the home football game Nov. 3.
"There will be more shirts given out at the Fall for Dance program at the River Campus on Nov. 29," Conley said.
The T-shirts will include a logo, which will also indicate when an event is part of the Frequent Flyer program, by being placed next to an event on the portal.
According to Michele Irby, faculty advisor of SGA, this same program was tried several years ago but it was unsuccessful as students who attended events went regardless of the program and SGA was not encouraging additional students to attend events because their was no guaranteed prize for attending a certain amount of events.
"Student Government decided to try it again because philosophically they believe it is important to encourage students to take advantage of the plethora of opportunities that Southeast provides them," Irby said.
