The LGBTQ+ Resource Center hosted its annual LGBTQ+ Ally Picnic for students and faculty outside of Kent Library on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The event included music and pizza and drew roughly 100 students who were given the opportunity to meet new people and learn about the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

Graduate assistant for the center Carson Lopez said the purpose of the picnic was to be as inclusive as possible and bring people together to have a good time.

Information was also provided at the picnic for students eager to learn about the LGBTQ+ community at Southeast through informational posters and student ambassadors.

Student ambassador and sophomore Adrienne Small answered questions for attendees. She said the best part about the picnic was seeing students show support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Small added a bonus to the event is being able to show new students and allies of the LGBT+ community have a supportive community and family at Southeast.

Along with several students, many faculty members attended the picnic including Southeast President Carlos Vargas.

Vargas praised the LGBTQ+ community on campus for being both inviting to students and involved with campus life. He noted he was happy to see the turnout of students and the remarkably positive and supportive environment.

The LGTBQ+ Resource Center is located on the second floor of the University Center in room 204.
