A power outage occurred across SEMO's campus at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Oct. 14, leaving most buildings without electricity and all buildings without hot water
SEMO sent out alerts canceling classes for the day and assured students that normal operations are expected to resume tomorrow.
While some dorms, like Towers and Dobbins Conservatory, are currently being powered by generators, others, like Merrick, Vandiver and LaFerla Hall, are without power. Students who live in these buildings are advised to move their fridges to sit on top of drains in case they start leaking water.
Currently, the only dining options available to students are St. Vincent dining on River Campus and Towers Landing.
In addition to the residence halls and academic buildings, the University Center and Kent Library are closed.
Freshmen political science major Carter Westray said the outage is impacting his day-to-day life and causing inconvenience.
“I have stuff that's due tonight that I have to go to a computer lab for that I'm not going to be able to do, so I really hope the professors are cool with that, and then I also have a book to turn in at Kent, and Kent's not open, so I can't do that,” Westray said.
