It’s standing room only at the Cape Girardeau County Republican watch party at the Jackson Civic Center and Barry Hovis, Republican candidate for the Missouri 146th district is finally starting to relax.

“I’ve been nervous all day but it’s starting to get a little loosened up here. I’m waiting for the results to come in,” Hovis said.

Hovis is seeking the house seat held by Donna Lichtenegger who has reached her term limit. Hovis said he’s learn a lot from Lichtenegger over the years while he was in law enforcement.

Hovis said a win tonight will be a sense of satisfaction but he’ll need to get right to work.

“We’re gonna have to get out there working hard making contact with people,” Hovis said.

Hovis won the district race by a margin of 81.9 percent, recieving 15,264 votes.
