An anonymous alumni donor made a generous contribution of 10 new laptop computers to Kent Library at Southeast.
“The donor said they wanted to fund a project that would directly impact students and make their experience better,” Kent Access Services Coordinator Leah McAlister said.
McAlister said while this is not the first time Kent has been able to offer laptops for check out, these laptops are much nicer than those of previous years and this is the first time they have offered Macbooks.
Seven of the new laptops are Dell and three are Macbooks. All of the computers are updated with the latest software such as Windows 10 and current iOS updates and have the complete Microsoft Suite.
Students can check out the laptops for three hour periods from the circulations desk located on the second floor of Kent. McAlister said if students still need to use the laptops after three hours, they can immediately check them out again.
The laptops do have to stay inside Kent library while students use them. The laptops are meant for students who do no have their own to be able to study anywhere in the library and not be confined to the computer lab on the third floor.
McAlister said the laptops are currently all available to be checked out. They went live Monday, March 5 and have already been checked out 15 times.
