Southeast Missouri State University's Student Government Association met Monday night to discuss the Cape Transit Authority program, along with funding for multiple upcoming events.
The CTA program is an effort by the transit authority and student government to transport students to and from the downtown bar district. If students have a valid Student ID, they can get a free ride back to the residence halls or anywhere in Cape Girardeau county.
Each department at Southeast was given a survey to judge the importance of the CTA program and the survey was taken by students. SGA President Benny Dorris said that SGA has received about 240 surveys and it is still waiting on more.
"Overall, most of the surveys taken by the students have said that getting a safe ride home is very important and that the student body thinks that the program should be funded by the SGA," Dorris said.
The SGA should be making its final decision on whether to fund the program by Nov. 2.
Dorris said that the program is currently in a pilot run and is not receiving any funding by the SGA.
"The cost and student response to the program by the surveys will be taken into account at the end of the pilot run," Dorris said.
The association also passed funding for upcoming events such as the Missouri Student Nurses' Association's convention at Columbia, Mo. and the Gay Straight Alliance production of a drag show on Oct. 24 from 6-9 p.m.
