On Monday Student Government Association met and discussed a proposal made by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee called "Stand Up for Helmets." The proposal had three methods of promoting helmets on scooters: campus awareness through public service announcements such as a radio segment on RAGE 103.7, Involvement with Campus Scooters store and campus involvement. SAAC wants to reduce the prices of helmets to make them more affordable and give them away in drawings at sporting events. Their goal for the campaign is to make students at Southeast Missouri State University aware of the dangers of driving scooters and to emphasize the importance of wearing helmets and how they can save lives.
The Executive Board has a meeting planned with Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins, the university president, about scooter parking issues next week.
Bradley Beran, university affairs committee chair for SGA discussed his meeting with the Dining Services Advisory Committee earlier in the evening and announced that blue reusable cups were available for a dollar at both Rowdy's and Olive's dining locations and can be used at these locations only. The cups are too help cut down on waste. Students can buy one for a dollar, and when they refill them at one of the available locations they will only be charged for the price of a small soda.
Jami Conley, student issues chair, announced there will be a forum held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 in the University Center. The forum is called #pumpkinprobs. There will be small pumpkins for students to decorate while they talk to senators about issues they have or things they would like to see continue.
