Around 2:30 p.m. Sept. 30, a Southeast student fell from the back of the green shuttle as it drove east on Normal Street.

The victim declined to give their name immediately following the incident.

Southeast sophomore Seth Pottoff was driving directly behind the shuttle when the incident occurred.

“Out of nowhere, the back door of the shuttle swung open and a female student flung out the back, right in front of my car,” Pottoff said.

Pottoff said he immediately stopped his car and got out to see if the victim was okay. He said the shuttle driver also stopped and got out to help the victim. Southeast student Nicolete Baker, a rider on the shuttle, said the driver then took control of the situation and called the Department of Public Safety over the radio.

DPS was the first to arrive on the scene, followed by a Cape Girardeau city fire truck and ambulance, all of which arrived within 20 minutes of the incident.

The student was taken to a local hospital to be assessed for injuries. As of now, the victim’s condition is unknown.

The Southeast Arrow will follow this story as it develops.
