The Southeast Missouri State University Zumba program hosted Party In Pink on Oct. 27, a workout-a-thon.
Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance that is mixed with salsa, samba and exercise movements.
"Party in Pink is a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. The proceeds go to the Susan G. Kolmen foundation," Danielle Sampson, a senior, said.
The program began with exercise routines, including salsa, Latin-inspired dances and samba. The participants had 45 minutes of exercise and they got at least 15 minutes to get some water, use the restroom and catch their breath before they resumed the next segment.
"We bring people. We sell tickets, bracelets, pencils. Seventy-five percent of the donations go to the Susan G. Kolmen foundation, and the other 25 percent go to other miscellaneous stuff," Tyeeshia Copeland, a senior, said. "We get to do something we enjoy and bring anyone from the community and raising for the cure."
It cost $3 in advance and $5 at the door to get in.
There were community members who enjoyed the Zumba-a-thon session.
"We take Zumba every week," Kristin Holley, a Cape Girardeau resident, said. "We go to the group fitness classes. I like it a lot."
