Every year it seems as if there is a new trend or saying that pops up online, often taking over social media and altering our urban vocabulary. Summer 2019 was no different, as the motto “Hot Girl Summer” became popular and holds a deep meaning to girls all over the world.

Most of us have heard the infamous saying “Hot Girl Summer” and have probably used it once or twice. But many are still asking, “What is a Hot Girl Summer?”

The phrase originates from a rapper by the name of Megan Thee Stallion, as she refers to herself as a “Hot Girl” and to her fans and supporters as “hotties.”

Mostly known for her daredevil lyrics and provocative approach, her and her influential slogan revolutionized our generation and caught the attention of others. It has even evolved into her hosting “hottie parties” in different cities.

Living in a society where butt-shots, small waists and big bosoms are fetishized, your mind may automatically assume it equates to the level of attractiveness someone possesses. People have created their own interpretations of what a “Hot Girl.”

Urban dictionary’s definition interprets the phrase as a measure of physical attributes: “a hot girl is an extremely good looking, attractive, beautiful, or pretty women.”

Although this definition could seem accurate to most, it has morphed into something much more meaningful and substantial to women across the globe.

Nonetheless, it has been revealed to us by the rapper and creator of “Hot Girl Summer,” Stallion, as to what exactly a “Hot Girl Summer” is and what makes you a “Hot Girl.”

Stallion took to Twitter to give the correct definition of what being a Hot Girl is.

“Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth, being the life of the party etc” Stallion said in a July 17 tweet.

Although many may view this in a negative way, she has helped to boost the self-esteem of so many and allowed them to embrace all of their quirks and eccentricities.
