For those who just enjoy singing, The Southeast Glee Club provided an opportunity to perform Saturday, Nov. 3, at the University Center.

“The Glee Club is made up of people who don’t have a choir type voice, but we have a passion for music and singing,” Small said.

Small said she joined the club her first semester of college since she was never able to sing in a choir.

Small explained the process of preparing for show like this.

“We started preparing this show in August when we all got here, we had our auditions in the week after and then we started planning everything for our show,” she said. “We started picking out songs, picking out group numbers, picking performance spaces, everything. Practices are from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and a lot gets done in that short amount of time.”

One of the pieces that The Glee Club performed was “Status Quo” from “High School Musical.” Another selection was “Must be Nice” from the musical “Hamilton.”

During transitions between songs, the MC Drew Poepping told the audience about his time in the club and shared a few jokes.

Small described the nerves that come into play with performances.

“I am always nervous. I think for everyone, once you get up there, and start singing your heart out, the nerves just fly away. It’s like they were never there,” Small said.

Southeast Glee Club will start back up and welcome new participants next semester in the spring.
