Election night brought together students from across campus as the SEMO College Democrats and the Black Student Union (BSU) hosted a joint watch party in the UC Ballroom B. This collaborative event offered students a space for community building, shared experiences, and political engagement.
The Black Student Union, an organization focused on fostering community through events like study halls, headphone parties, and movie nights, often works with the College Democrats to create events that connect students. BSU President Jaden Woods explained their decision to host a single, inclusive event.
“We wanted it to be easier for people to come and be a part of one big watch party rather than start a separate one,” Woods said.
Around 20 students attended the event, along with local community members. Jayda Pester, a local business owner from Henna Illusions, showcased her henna art, offering a unique touch to the gathering. Known for her confidence-boosting pop-ups in Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, Pester shared her colorful henna designs with attendees.
The joint watch party not only encouraged student participation in the election but also highlighted the strength of collaboration on campus. By working together, the College Democrats and BSU created a memorable night that celebrated unity and inclusivity among students.
