Child 31 is a short documentary produced by Grassroots Films on the charity program Mary's Meals. Mary's Meals is designed to feed children in impoverished countries such as Africa, India and Latin America.

It all began with one man and his brother discussing hunger in Bolivia and their decision to help. It took off from there. Mary's Meals is now feeding over half a million children in over 16 countries every day.

Southeast Missouri State University showed the film on Monday in Rose Theatre.

Campus Minister at CCM Kristen Rainey said they chose to show this video in a hope to raise awareness about the widespread hunger and poverty that people fail to see in their daily lives. Rainey said that while it might take about $5 for a meal in the U.S., nine cents is all it takes for a meal in a country like Africa.

Southeast Alumna Chelsea Riley agrees. She attended the showing of Child 31 because she had attended the showing of The Human Experience and heard about this new documentary. She learned exactly what the documentary intended.

"It doesn't really take much to help," Riley said.

There was no discussion after the movie.
