Rising comedian Cristela Alonzo paid a visit Tuesday to Southeast Missouri State University, attempting to bring laughter to her audience.
The Southeast students who came to the UC Ballroom seemed to provide Alonzo with a good audience, not shying away from anything she threw at them. She touched on everything from food to ethnicity, making herself the main target for a number of jokes. Her self-deprecating humor and jokes about campus, to which the audience responded heartily with laughter and applause, managed to bring a healthy dose of involvement to her routine.
"Really, this campus looks stupid scary at night. It's like a horror movie," Alonzo joked.
Comedy Coordinator Kayla Brannam said the show was really good.
"I've seen her before, but only little bits. It was good to see a full show," Brannam said.
The other attending students seemed to agree, with laughter filling the room after each line.
Alonzo herself said she was pleased to be here, having attended school in St. Louis for a year.
"I always like returning to Missouri. It feels like home," Alonzo said.
