Graduation. It happens in twelve days for me, as I will be getting my undergraduate degree from Southeast on May 11. All of these new happenings have found me doing a lot of reflecting during the past couple of weeks. When I was a senior in high school and decided to come to Southeast, I was apprehensive and excited at the same time. I could not have imagined all of the great (and a few not so great) happenings of the next four years. I have met some truly amazing people and made many new friends. College has been a great experience.
To our young readers, I want to urge you to get involved on campus. Find something you are passionate about, and go after it. I have always enjoyed helping people and doing community service, so I got involved with a coed service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and that was the best decision of my college career. I have heard many people who join similar organizations--whether they be social fraternities or sororities, professional organizations, religious organizations, club teams or what have you--say the same thing. Joining an organization is a great way to come to feel at home on campus because you meet so many of your best friends and do activities that interest you.
It really does not feel like I have been here four years. Cape Girardeau has truly become my second home. In the past month, I have decided to return to Southeast to pursue my graduate degree and be a graduate assistant, and I must day I am excited to be here for another two years.
