SGA President Lydia Pobst opened the Feb.10 meeting by highlighting upcoming listening sessions for Dr. Brad Hodson, a candidate for university president.
The sessions, scheduled for Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and noon in Dempster Hall, provide students an opportunity to ask questions and engage in the selection process. Pobst encouraged all members to attend and participate.
“Please come to the listening sessions and take part in the discussions,” Pobst said.
Following Pobst’s discussion on the new possible presidential candidate, the meeting moved on to proposals for SGA’s funding board.
Multiple members from the student organization Collegiate Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) approached the funding board committee to represent the members of this student organization.
The FBLA sought $1,275 to cover the registration and lodging costs for 11 students for the Future Business Meetings of America State Leadership Conference held in Columbia, MO, from March 2 to March 3, 2025.
The FBLA members emphasized how this conference benefits its members and that the FBLA is for everyone, not only for business majors and anyone who can be involved in FBLA.
The funding board accepted the proposal to cover the registration and lodging and approved the resolution.
The final resolution for this meeting included another proposal to SGA’s funding board.
Freshman biomedical student major Nayasha Ndirwo approached the funding board as a representative for biomedical students.
Ndirwo sought $250 to cover airfare expenses for the Medical Devices Make-a-Thon Competition held in Norman, Oklahoma, from Feb 28 to March 2, 2025.
Ndirwo emphasized how attending this competition would benefit future biomedical degree students.
“This conference is a great opportunity for biomedical students to show their talents and knowledge to help make a difference in the medical field,” Ndirwo said.
The funding board accepted the proposal to cover airfare expenses and approved the resolution, marking the final agenda for the evening.
“This funding allows more biomedical students to have these opportunities and experience to help in their future careers,” Ndirwo said.
With both funding requests approved, the meeting concluded on a note of support for student opportunities.
