Sorority Bid Day took the campus by storm as all seven sororities welcomed their new sisters home on Aug 25.

Bid Day marks the culmination of recruitment when new members are officially accepted into their sororities.

The day begins with recruits opening their acceptance envelopes from their sorority in the auditorium in the Academic Hall. From there, they “run home” to meet their new sisters on Parker Field, concluding the day by going to their sorority houses on Greek Hill.

Alarie Ornburn, the chapter advisor for Alpha Chi Omega, said lots of work goes into planning Bid Day for the sororities.

“The women work year-round to plan for recruitment and to plan for our new members every faIl. There was a lot of thought to it,” Ornburn said.

After weeks of meticulous planning, returning members of the sororities finally got to welcome their new sisters home.

Brooke Brown, a junior middle school education and vice president of Gamma Phi Delta, who is in charge of recruitment, said that she can’t wait to get to know her new sisters better.

“I am so excited to have them in the sisterhood and get to learn so much more about them,” Brown said.

Brown explained that after the new recruits ran home, her sorority planned several activities in the sorority house based on their theme, “Gamma Phi in Full Bloom.”

The new recruits, having worked hard throughout the recruitment process, are equally eager to begin activities and bond with their fellow sisters.

Sophie Martin, a senior psychology major and new Sigma Sigma Sigma member, said she chose to join a sorority her senior year because of the connections she made and the openness she experienced.

“They basically walked me through everything,” Martin said. “They were totally honest with the pricing and the activities that they do; they were really hyping up the activities, so I’m super excited about it.”

For some recruits, joining a sorority is about connecting with like-minded individuals and supporting causes they’re passionate about.

Freshman biomedical sciences major Marissa Naughton joined Delta Delta Delta because of her medical passions.

“I want to be a cancer doctor, and their philanthropy, St. Jude's really stuck out to me a lot.” Naughton said.

After a full week of rushing, the new members celebrated their acceptance and looked forward to their future in the sisterhood.

“All of the girls are so genuine and kind and loving, and I truly felt at home here,” Naughton said.
