For those unfamiliar with the Arrow’s Arts & Entertainment section, know that the content is about more than simple coverages of university events — at least that’s what we’re shooting for. This semester we’re pushing for a more community-focused approach and to be more in touch with our readers.

Our first step in that process is an open call for submissions of original creativity, of any form. Everything from flash essays and poetry to photography and illustrations — literally anything you create, send it our way to have your creativity recognized. The Arrow editorial staff will vote for weekly winners and runners-up to be be featured on the new app, online and bi-weekly in our print edition. Submit via email to AE@southeastarrow.com. Fiction, painting, sculpture, graphic design, cartoon, fashion, etc. Reviews are also encouraged: your opinions on the latest albums, books and Netflix-bingeables. We’d like to grow the community of contributors and get some new angles and opinions.

Another way we’re hoping to feature the artistic culture of our student body is through our usual story format. But for this too, we’ll need your help. Those with new and interesting connections to music and art: reach out! We’d love to cover your garage band, book club or art project. Hit us up via email or on twitter (plug: @AE_Arrow) and let us know what’s going on in your world and culture.

Remember your submission can be anything you dream up; any type of visual imagery or written work less than 500 words. After some development, we are hoping to evolve into a people’s vote. Submit via email: AE@southeastarrow.com with the subject line SUBMISSION.

Keep submissions to three a week.

Until next time, I’ll be fishing and listening to The Wild Reeds.

Yours, in Arts & Entertainment, Matt Dollard.
