Junior forward Brendan Terry keeps bringing the physicality for the SEMO men’s basketball team; his consistency has been a factor for the team’s ongoing success.
Terry enters his junior year in his first season with the Redhawks after transferring from Pensacola State college.
Throughout this season Terry has been consistently producing for the Redhawks, averaging 10.7 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game. He has also finished as the team’s highest scorer five different times this season.
Terry is the third highest on the team in points per game, behind both senior guard Teddy Washington jr. and junior guard Rob Martin.
Terry was selected to be a starter at the center and power forward this season, despite being smaller than the average traditional height to play at each position. Regardless, Terry has still put up stats to help the Redhawks continue to have success this season.
Terry commented on what it is like playing the forward/center role for SEMO only being 6 '7 and how he is able to produce these stats consistently every game.
“A lot of it is in the weight room over the summer, like I set it off, kind of like on the weaker side of things, and then slowly made my way to top three, top two scorers on the team. And then also dudes like Rob who just makes my life a lot easier,” Terry said.
Junior point guard Rob Martin commented on having an athlete like Terry on the team and how he helps contribute to the team’s ongoing success.
“[Having him with us] is great. He works hard. He brings it each and every day. Even if he’s not having his best day, he impacts the game in so many different ways. I feel like he just lets the game come to him,” Martin said.
Terry commented on what his off the court preparation looks like in order to continue to produce for the Redhawks.
“A lot of film. I watch a lot of film and then a lot of working out. Whether it’s shooting with the GA Sam or just getting in a lot of footwork. And honestly getting a lot of rest. I try to get at least eight hours [of sleep],” Terry said.
Head Coach Brad Korn commented what it’s been like having Brendan on the team and how his role has helped a lot towards the Redhawks success this season.
“The great thing about Brendan is that he has progressively gotten better. When he first showed up in June, I don’t know if I thought he was going to be this type of player that he has been. Pretty impressed with his skill set when we got him, but I think he has had a tremendous season, obviously to this point.” Korn said.
The Redhawks take on Tennessee Tech University, on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3:45 p.m. here in Cape Girardeau, MO right at the Show Me Center.
