Junior all-around gymnast Taylor Ingle, demonstrated her talent by leading her team in scoring at their first home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 31. by delivering a 38.150 securing a second place finish in the meet against Illinois State.

With Ingle’s contributions, the team scored a season-high 194.875. She was a leading figure, providing a 9.800 on vault and a 9.825 on floor.

Ingle’s persistent, influential performances earned her a second straight Midwest Independent Conference(MIC) ‘Gymnast of the Week’ award last week.

“It’s always really cool. There’s so much talent in this conference,” Ingle said.

Ingle’s impact also carries over while on the sidelines, constantly encouraging and motivating her teammates.

“I would definitely say she has a positive influence on the atmosphere (in the gym)... she lifts us up when we need someone,” senior all-around gymnast Niya Reader said.

Ingle’s presence is influential not only in the gym but also in the classroom. Alongside participating in gymnastics, she majors in nursing.

“It’s definitely learning how to manage your time and prioritizing a lot. With clinicals and exams every week and then obviously training and traveling, you definitely have to plan very well.” Ingle said.

Gymnastics head coach Ashley Lawson commented on Ingle’s work ethic, saying,

“She’s got a pretty hefty schedule being a nursing student and being a reliable competitor takes a lot of commitment to herself and her team,” Lawson said. “She is a workaholic.”

When asked to describe Ingle in one word Lawson said,

“A joy. She is a joyful person. She’s a joy to be around. She brings joy to those around her, and she’s a joy to coach,” Lawson said.

The Redhawks will compete again in Houck Field House on Feb 14 at 6:30 p.m. in a tri meet against Centenary and Northern Illinois.
