The Vintage Now Fashion Show has grown since its inception two years ago, and the idea behind it is as strong as ever. The people who support it have been working hard to make sure each year is better than the last.
The proceeds from Vintage Now help support the Safe House for Women in Cape Girardeau.
The growth of the event and hard work put into the show were evident, as a line of people waited to get in. Even after the doors opened there was a steady stream of new arrivals. Approximately 800 people were in attendance.
The night began with a short introduction and a performance from the Academy of Arts Dance Troop, followed by the fashion show. Women of all ages proudly showcased the many outfits donated by Pastimes Antiques. The owner of Pastimes, Deb Maevers, said she was thrilled by the turnout.
"I'm really impressed in how many people within the community supported us," Maevers said.
Apart from the fashion show there were other fundraisers, such as a silent auction and a standard auction for a VIP table for next year's show, which raised a $2,200. The amount of money raised from the silent auction will take a few days to be determined.
Executive Director of the Safe House for Women Michelle Scherer said the goal was to raise $50,000 and she believed they would attain that goal.
"This is by far our largest fundraiser of the year," Scherer said.
