Southeast Missouri State University's Student Activities Council invited Los Angeles-based A Capella group, Filharmonic to perform on Sept. 21 in the Academic Hall Auditorium.

The group has appeared on NBC’s “The-Sing-Off,” and in the movie “Pitch Perfect 2.”

Southeast was just one of more than 100 universities on the Filipino group’s first national college tour, titled Get Up and Go.

“We ended up booking them by pure luck,” Evie Jackson, event coordinator for SAC said.

“They’re honestly one of my favorite groups, so we were really aiming for them.”

The group used their voices as instruments while performing "Chains" by Nick Jonas, "Work" by Rihanna and Treasure" by Bruno Mars.

The hour-long performance was full of student involvement, a song was even dedicated to sophomore Alyssa Gibbs when she put her arms in the air.

“It was so awesome when they sang ‘Love Yourself,’” Gibbs said.

Jackson said she believes that the performance definitely served its purpose

“SAC tries to put on as many events as possible each year as a source of stress relief for students,” Jackson said.

The six men closed the show with an original piece and received a standing ovation from a sufficiently entertained crowd.

Following the performance, a meet-and-greet was held in the lobby of Academic Hall, where students waited in line to meet the group and take photos.

As students waited in line, members of SAC set up a table of merchandise available for purchase. T-shirts were sold out within the first 20 minutes.

“Overall I think their performance was amazing,” Gibbs said.

SAC has 8 events planned for the remainder of the semester.
