Two local bands will open for The Spill Canvas’ national tour with WILD and Super Whatevr at Mixing 10 on Friday.
This will be the 21st performance of the tour, which started on Oct. 12th. The tour celebrates the 10 year anniversary of The Spill Canvas’ third studio album, “No Really, I’m Fine.” The album features songs such as “All Over You” and “The Truth”.
Dyami Cluney will be the second local band opening for the show, they won the recent “Battle To Open For The Spill Canvas!”. The contest consisted of two-rounds amongst seven other bands, which occurred on Nov. 10th, Nov. 11th, and Nov. 25th at Mixing 10.
Holy Crow, a two-piece Cape Girardeau band with a rock and blues sound, will open the show.
Marc Richey of Holy Crow said he feels “on fire” about the show.
“The opportunity overall is amazing,” Richey said, “People who I work with love [The Spill Canvas].”
Some songs that will be performed by Holy Crow will be “Falling Out”, and “The Kids.” The latter, Richey said is inspired by college students and how they act at local bars.
“We’re like hearing blues rock, kind of like a jam. I like to think we have a heavy blues influence,” said Richey, the group’s vocalist and guitarist. “We get a lot of feedback about our energy.”
Following the Cape Girardeau bands will be the Indie Folk band WILD, recent additions to the tour. Lead vocalist Lauren Luiz said the band’s sound is positive and light-hearted with a punk vibe.
The band is from Los Angeles and had only performed there before being booked at the SXSW Music Festival and being invited on their first national tour.
“I don’t know what the crowds were gonna be like, but The Spill Canvas crowds have all been so fun,” Luiz said. “We as musicians will have a blast.”
“I think we’re all from a small town kind of vibe. We like to talk directly to people while on stage,” Luiz said, “and I think in a small town we can talk to more of the crowd.”
Luiz said even though their genre is different from the headliner’s, the tour and audiences have had a certain hype.
Holy Crow will open the show at 7 p.m. Tickets range between $15 and $25 at the door.
