Over 300 SEMO students filled the University Center Ballroom for a chance to win cash prizes at bingo night.
Bingo night featured nine different rounds and over a dozen student winners. The event was hosted by Campus Movement, a ministry on campus, on January 23, 2024.
Students could win anywhere from $20 to $200 from a single bingo round. Each round featured a different version of bingo including regular, four corners, plus sign, lucky seven, letter X, diamond, cheerio and field goal.
Freshman elementary education major Tori Hom said she came to the event hoping to win some money.
“I did not win anything,” Hom said. “But, it was fun. A little chaotic, but fun.”
Freshman marine biology major Allora Hawkins also said that the event was fun. Hawkins described the event as loud, very intense, and exciting.
Extra seats and tables were brought in due to an access amount of SEMO students attending the event. At 8:08 p.m., just eight minutes after the doors opened, an announcement was made that they might have to start turning people away due to the ballroom reaching max capacity.
Midway through bingo night, an intermission was taken and a speech was given by Ian Tacderas, a Campus Director for Campus Movement. Tacderas shared more about campus movement and their weekly meeting, known as 828.
Tacderas also talked about Campus Movement's mission. The mission statement is “Building laborers on the campus to see a movement of God that changes the world.”
Claudia Meyn, a Campus Staff member for Campus Movement, described bingo night as a success, stating that the goal was to promote Campus Movement's weekly 828 Tuesday meetings. She said they were not expecting 300 people to attend and it seemed like everyone had a lot of fun.
“We like to throw a lot of fun events, help students have fun, meet people and just have a good time,” Meyn said.
Campus Movements' next event is Black Tie Trivia on February 9th.
