On Monday night, August 19th, at 6:00 p.m. Campus Movement (CAMO) hosted a free, Speed Volleyball tournament where 47 teams of six took to the sand at SEMO’s Parker Field.

The event featured over 300 SEMO students who competed for a grand prize of a $150 gift card to Burritoville, and each student who attended entered a raffle for a 55” inch TV.

Speed volleyball is volleyball, but with a fast paced twist. Two teams of six start on each court, when a point is scored the loser of that point runs off the court, and a new team replaces them. The ball can be served at any time, so players must move quickly. This tournament hosted three rounds of play, and then hosted a round of the top ten teams of the day. The final ten fought to the end, and a champion was crowned in the final round.

When students were asked about the differences between Volleyball, and Speed Volleyball, and which game they preferred, students leaned towards sand volleyball.

“Yeah, there's 100% differences. And I think speed volleyball is more fun. We play without certain rules. For example, you can touch the net as much as you want, which I'm a big fan of,” SEMO student Noah Stuckle Said

To confirm Stuckle’s preference of Speed Volleyball, SEMO Student Stephen Pursley agreed.

“I enjoy speed more. You can get a lot more people involved at once. So it's really fun to do it with a big group of people. and it is more fast paced, and you gotta be alert and paying attention at all times. So I prefer it more, ”Pursley said.

The Speed Volleyball tournament was hosted by Campus Movement. Campus Movement (CAMO) is a group of SEMO graduates who aim to foster faith and camaraderie on campus.

“We're just trying to help students grow in their relationship with God and also have fun, and to make the most out of college, along with that, helping people become better leaders,” Folsom said.

Over the next few weeks CAMO has a lineup of events that include, next Tuesdays 2nd annual Soccer tournament, with food provided by the National Guard, Bingo night at the University Center on September 3rd, and a flag football tournament on September 16th.
