The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team was defeated by Southern Illinois Nov. 30 at the Show Me Center by the score of 78-61.

The Redhawks trailed by 19 points at halftime before cutting it to a 10 point game late in the third quarter before ultimately losing by 17 points.

Junior guard Roshala Scott led the team in scoring with 16 points to go along with three assists, but she was quick to share the spotlight with her teammates after the game.

“Wherever the ball went, other people can make shots. So if the ball goes in that's all I’m worried about,” Scott said.

SEMO struggled defensively allowing Southern Illinois to shoot 60% from the field, with 48 points coming inside the paint. Head Coach Rekha Patterson pointed out her team's defensive struggles, but she also liked the way her team responded and the toughness that they played with.

“Obviously a tough challenge with a very talented and experienced team that we played against tonight. It was a tough 15 minutes for sure, but I saw a lot of growth in that second half out of a lot of our young ladies,” Patterson said.

Freshman guard, Jaliyah Green had a career high 15 points on 50% shooting and was a big piece offensively in the second half to help the Redhawks make it a close game.

“I think I was getting the rhythm a little bit, I was able to make layups, get open, get to the basket, and make my own shots,” Green said.

Coach Patterson gave praise to her young freshman pointing out how talented she is and how tonight she was able to stay aggressive and stay “in attack mode” and not settle for jump shots.

The SEMO women’s basketball team falls to 2-5 overall as they look to turn it around Friday night, Dec. 3rd, against the St. Louis Billikens at the Show Me Center. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30pm.
