The SEMO men’s basketball team won against the Lindenwood University Lions by a score of 74-58 to bring their winning streak to 9.

The Redhawks entered this matchup against the Lions after breaking the record for the longest win streak since the Division I era. With this game against the Lions, the RedHawks finish with a record of 12-3 for their home games, which is their most home wins in a season since 1999-2000.

The first half of the game with both teams playing tough defense on one another. The Redhawks and Lions were going back and forth in scoring at the beginning of the half, but then the Lions proceeded to go on a 7-0 run against the RedHawks.

The RedHawks answered back to the Lions after taking a timeout by going on an 8-0 run. The RedHawks struggled offensively in the first part of the half, but turned it around to gain a lead over the Lions. Senior guard Teddy Washington Jr. hit a tough and-one layup to give the RedHawks a boost of momentum to battle back into the game.

To close out the first half, the RedHawks were leading by four points. The score was 28-24 going into halftime.

The RedHawks went into the second half with even more energy than the first half. The RedHawks came out of the gate on a 9-2 run against the Lions. The Lions faced the same struggles the RedHawks did in the beginning of the first half, with turnovers and missed shots that caused the RedHawks to feed off of their mistakes.

Junior Forward Brendan Terry got a steal and went coast to coast all alone for an explosive dunk to force the Lions to take a timeout, bringing the energy inside the Show Me Center to an all-time high.

The game ended by a score of 74-58 with the RedHawks walking away with the win to extend their historic streak.

Rob Martin ended the game with 26 points and 8 assists backed up by Brendan Terry putting up 22 points.

Head Coach Brad Korn spoke on how Rob Martin and the players on the basketball team.

“He’s just been really, really, really consistent. And he’s got a great spirit about him right now. And he’s playing the game the right way. It's just very comforting when you have a guy like Rob, or a guy like Teddy or a guy like BJ. And then you sprinkle in Brendan Terry and Braxton Stacker, there’s just so much consistency there you feel very, very comfortable.” Korn said.

Junior Guard Rob Martin spoke on how he was able to play well in the second half of the game.

“Just confidence in myself and getting reps outside of the basketball game, and just believing in myself, my teammates believing in me, my coach believing in me. Just having that confidence I feel like is the main thing. I feel like I can make shots at a high level but also get my guys involved.” Martin said.

Junior forward Brendan Terry spoke on what push they were given during the final six minutes of the game.

“I mean, for us, it was a big culture thing. I mean honestly, it started back in the summer, just you know, keep doing the right things. And part of the reason why we went down was because I gambled, I think, once or twice, and then they got a couple buckets off that. So it was kind of just, you know, stay solid.” Terry said.

Korn spoke on how he plans on keeping his players motivated going into the end of the season.

“For the guys, it’s just to continue to get out of their way. Couple times in timeouts, I’m trying to do this or that and I just have to tell myself about these players, trust the players and let them play. And I think that’s why they thrive and why we’re having some success because they feel that and understand that too.” Korn said.

The Redhawks next game is Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m in Edwardsville, IL, at the Vadalabene Center as they prepare to face the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars.
